Die World Coffee Company GmbH & Co. KG wurde 1997 von Roman Maria Koidl in Hamburg gegründet.[1] Das Unternehmen betrieb in Deutschland 27 Cafés.[2] Zu den wesentlichen Mitbewerbern gehörte die amerikanische Firma Starbucks.

Unternehmensgeschichte

Nach einem erfolgreich beendeten Insolvenzverfahren im Jahr 2002, konnte das Unternehmen gerettet und fortgeführt werden.[3] Nach der Insolvenz wurde durch die neuen Eigentümer, eine Investorengruppe aus Frankfurt am Main, Christian Schwake zum neuen Geschäftsführer bestellt.[4] Seither war der persönlich haftende Gesellschafter der Kommanditgesellschaft die ebenfalls in Hamburg ansässige World Coffee Verwaltungs GmbH.[5] Im Jahr 2003 äußerte Schwake seine Pläne, bis 2005 insgesamt 30 Filialen in Deutschland betreiben zu wollen.[4]Zum Oktober 2010 betrieb World Coffee 27 Filialen.[1] Im Juli 2011 fusionierte das Unternehmen mit dem Mitbewerber Balzac Coffee zum neuen Unternehmen Balzac Coffee Company.

Produkte

Nach eigenen Angaben vertrieb das Unternehmen rund 192 Kombinationsmöglichkeiten von Kaffee-Spezialitäten.[6] Das Sortiment gliederte sich in Nahrungsmittel, wie Baguettes, Kekse und Kuchen. Daneben wurden auch Smoothies und Milchshakes angeboten.

Auszeichnungen

Laut einer Studie aus dem Oktober 2010, erreichte World Coffee von elf getesteten Coffee-Shop-Ketten den zweiten Rang. Zusätzlich verfügte World Coffee über die kompetentesten Mitarbeiter in dem Test. Die Studie wurde im September 2010 vom Deutschen Institut für Service-Qualität durchgeführt.[7]
