International Amateur Radio Union

Die International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) ist die internationale Vereinigung von Amateurfunkverbänden. In der IARU ist je Land eine Funkamateurvereinigung (in Deutschland: DARC, in Österreich: OEVSV, Schweiz: USKA) vertreten. Die IARU wurde im Jahr 1925 gegründet, um die Interessen der Funkamateure auf den Weltfunkkonferenzen besser vertreten zu können.

Die IARU ist in drei Regionen gegliedert, um bei ihren Aktivitäten den unterschiedlichen Frequenzzuweisungen in den drei in der Vollzugsordnung für den Funkdienst eingeführten Regionen gerecht zu werden. In jeder Region hat die IARU einen Bandplan herausgegeben. Hier werden die verschiedenen Betriebsarten auf jedem Amateurband je einem bestimmten Bereich zugewiesen.

Auch die internationale Koordination der QSL-Karten-Zustellung liegt bei der IARU.

Die IARU ist, wenn es um die Zuteilung von Radiofrequenzen sowie Frequenzbändern an den Amateurfunkdienst geht, auf der Weltfunkkonferenz mit beratender Stimme vertreten.

Jedes Jahr wird von der IARU im Juli der IARU HF World Championship Contest veranstaltet, einer der größten Funkwettbewerbe der Welt.

Zweimal im Jahr, jeweils im Mai und November findet eine weltweite Notfunkübung der IARU statt, Global Simulated Emergency Test (Global SET).

Gründung

Die IARU wurde 1925 gegründet. Der Gründungskongress fand vom 14. bis 18. April in Paris statt. Es nahmen 271 Teilnehmer aus 26 Ländern teil. Das Protokoll wurde in den Sprachen Englisch, Französisch und Esperanto abgefasst.
