Angela Morley (* 10. März 1924 in Leeds; † 14. Januar 2009 in Scottsdale, Arizona) war eine britische Komponistin und Dirigentin.

Leben

Morley war eine transsexuelle Frau und wurde ursprünglich als Wally Scott geboren. 1972 unterzog sie sich einer operativen Geschlechtsumwandlung. Ihr erfolgreicher Einstieg musikalischen Wirkens ist weitestgehend auf den Einfluss und die Förderung durch den kanadischen Komponisten Robert Farnon zurückzuführen. Im späteren Abschnitt ihres Lebens lebte sie in Scottsdale, Arizona und wurde für ihre musikalische Arbeit mit drei Emmy Awards geehrt. Überdies wurde sie zwei mal für den Oscar nominiert.

Angela Morley starb am 14. Januar 2009 an den durch einen Sturz verursachten Komplikationen und den Folgen eines späteren Herzinfarktes. Sie wurde 84 Jahre alt.

Werke

Angela Morley war ursprünglich eine Komponistin von Unterhaltungsmusik. Eines ihrer bekanntesten Werke ist Rotten Row. Ebenfalls bemerkenswert ist A Canadian Myfair, eine Hommage an Robert Farnons Portrait of a Flirt. Bekannt wurde Morley darüber hinaus durch die Filmmusik, darunter zu Watership Down, 1978; Kapitän Nemo, 1969; Musik für einzelne Teile der Serien Denver-Clan, Die Colbys, Dallas, Falcon Crest und Hotel.
