Tanout ist eine Stadt im Niger.

Sie liegt am Rande Ténéré-Wüste in der Region Zinder. In Tanout leben 15.205 (2005) Einwohner (1988:11.595, 2001:14.101).

Die Gegend um Tanout zählt zu den trockensten von Menschen bewohnten Gebieten. Während in der Vergangenheit die Landschaft um Tanout durch Savanne geprägt war, ist nunmehr die Wüste bestimmend. Landwirtschaftlich ist die Region nur für gegen Trockenheit unempfindliche Pflanzen nutzbar. In der näheren Umgebung der Stadt werden Hirse und Durra angebaut.
