Peter Howson

Peter Howson (* 1958 in London) ist ein schottischer Maler.

Leben

Er wuchs in Prestwick, South Ayrshire, auf. Nach einem kurzen Militärdienst studierte er ab 1979 an der School of Art in Glasgow bei John Bellany, dessen Meisterschüler er auch wurde. Gemeinsam mit Ken Currie und anderen gründete er die Malergruppe Glasgow Boys neu, die Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts entstanden war und damals die moderne Malerei wesentlich beeinflusst hatte.

Im Bosnischen Bürgerkrieg war er offizieller britischer Kriegsmaler. Im Kosovo-Krieg war er Kriegsmaler der Londoner Times. Neben den Schrecken des Kriegs zeigen seine Bilder häufig religiöse Motive. Seine Bilder sind bei vielen Prominenten beliebt, u. a. bei Madonna, David Bowie, Bob Geldof und Sylvester Stallone.

Peter Howson lebt und arbeitet in Glasgow.
