Nova Linux ist eine Gentoo-basierte Linuxdistribution, die von der Universidad de las Ciencias Informáticas in Havanna/Kuba entwickelt und herausgegeben wird. Es nutzt GNOME, es können aber auch KDE und XFCE hinzugefügt werden.

Hintergründe

Auf Grund des Wirtschaftsembargos der USA gegen Kuba können US-Produkte wie Microsoft Windows nicht legal eingesetzt werden. Updates sind nicht verfügbar. Auch aus prinzipiellen Gründen möchte man keine amerikanische Software nutzen. Der Konflikt zwischen Kuba und den USA ist alt. Nach Aussage des Dekans der Informatik-Universität, Alain Guerreiro, könne zudem mangels Zugang zum Quellcode die Sicherheit von Windows nicht überprüft werden [1].
