Vernon Benjamin Mountcastle (* 15. Juli 1918 in Shelbyville, Kentucky) ist ein US-amerikanischer Neurowissenschaftler.

Mountcastle war von 1964 bis 1980 Nachfolger von Philip Bard als Direktor des Department of Physiology at the School of Medicine an der Johns Hopkins University. Hier gründete er die Philip Bard Laboratories of Neurophysiology, die Teil des Department of Neuroscience wurden.

1966 wurde er in die National Academy of Sciences gewählt. 1978 wurde er mit dem Louisa Gross Horwitz-Preis, 1983 mit dem Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research und 1986 mit der United States National Medal of Science ausgezeichnet.
