Marvelettes

The Marvelettes waren eine US-amerikanische Gesangsgruppe. Die aus Michigan, USA, stammenden Mädchen waren angeblich alle 1944 geboren.

Im Herbst 1961 erreichte ihr Titel Please Mr. Postman Platz 1 in der US-amerikanischen Hitparade und war die erste Nummer 1 für ihr Plattenlabel Motown überhaupt. Die Beatles nahmen den Titel 1963 auf, 1974 wurde er ein Hit für die Carpenters.

Anfang der 1970er Jahre fiel die Band auseinander, kam aber mit unterschiedlichen Sessionsängerinnen jeweils 1980 und 1990 wieder kurzfristig zusammen. Im Jahr 2004 wurden sie in die Vocal Group Hall of Fame aufgenommen.
