Maintainer

Der Maintainer (engl.: Instandhalter, Erhalter, Pfleger) ist bei meistens freien Softwareprojekten der zuständige Moderator eines Projektes, der das Projekt betreut, ordnet, Versionen pflegt, Software-Pakete zusammenstellt und sich um die Bearbeitung von Programmfehlern kümmert. Nicht selten ist der Maintainer die einzige Person, die an diesem Projekt arbeitet, es gibt jedoch auch große Projekte, in denen Maintainer nur für spezielle Bereiche zuständig sind. So sind für den GCC über 200 Maintainer gelistet.[1]

Viele Open-Source-Software-Entwicklungen werden von Maintainern moderiert, beispielsweise das Debian-GNU/Linux-Projekt[2] und der Linux-Kernel, dessen Maintainer Linus Torvalds ist.
