Liberty Mutual ist ein US-amerikanisches Unternehmen mit Firmensitz in Boston, Massachusetts.

Das Unternehmen ist in der Versicherungsbranche tätig und bietet verschiedene Versicherungen für seine Kunden an. Gegründet wurde das Unternehmen 1912 als Massachusetts Employees’ Insurance Association (MEIA). Der Hintergrund war, dass der US-Bundesstaat Massachusetts ein Gesetz verabschiedete, wodurch die Unternehmen verpflichtet wurden für ihre Arbeitnehmer eine Unfallversicherung abzuschließen.[1]

1917 wurde der Name in "Liberty Mutual Insurance Company" geändert. Seit 1964 werden Lebensversicherungen angeboten. 2002 wurde das Unternehmen als Holding organisiert.

Im April 2008 erwarb Liberty Mutual das Versicherungsunternehmen Safeco aus Seattle [2].
