Lebo M

Lebohang Morake (* 20. Mai 1964 in Soweto, Südafrika), besser bekannt unter seinem Künstlernamen Lebo M, ist ein südafrikanischer Komponist, welcher unter anderem für seine Arbeit am König der Löwen bekannt ist.

Vorgeschlagen wurde er für den Job von Hans Zimmer, der bereits von Disney mit der Erstellung des Soundtracks betraut war. Später erlaubte man ihm, einen afrikanischen Chor in den Soundtrack mit einzubeziehen. Seine Stimme ist es auch, die man als erstes während des Films „Der König der Löwen“ hört. Auch für die Fortsetzungen, u.a. Der König der Löwen 2 – Simbas Königreich und die CD Rhythm of the Pride Lands (1995) wirkte er am Soundtrack mit.

Biografie

Morake wurde in Soweto, einem Vorort von Johannesburg geboren und arbeitete viele Jahre in den Slums. 1979 wurde er aus Südafrika ausgewiesen, kehrte aber 20 Jahre später wieder zurück. Heute lebt er mit seiner Familie in Johannesburg und Los Angeles. Außerdem gründete er die „Lebo M Foundation“ und „Till Dawn Entertainment“.
