Kensei

Kensei (jap. 剣聖, wörtlich: „Schwertheiliger“) ist ein japanischer Ehrentitel, der an Krieger mit legendären Fähigkeiten in der Schwertkampfkunst vergeben wurde.

Zu den berühmtesten Kensei gehört Miyamoto Musashi, auch wenn nicht alle Historiker ihm diesen Begriff zuordnen würden. Andere historische Kensei sind oftmals Gründer von berühmten Schwertkampfschulen. Es ist auch eine Art ungeschriebenes Gesetz, dass der Titel so viel Ehre mit sich bringt, dass es nie mehr als einen Kensei zur selben Zeit geben soll.
