Kenneth Oppel (* 31. August 1967 in Port Alberni, British Columbia) ist ein kanadischer Fantasy- und Science-Fiction-Schriftsteller.

Kenneth Oppel wuchs in Victoria und Halifax auf, verbrachte Teile seiner Jugend aber auch in Labrador, England und Irland. Während seiner Highschool-Zeit schrieb er mit 15 Jahren sein erstes Kinderbuch Colin's Fantastic Video Adventure. Ein Bekannter sandte das Manuskript an den Agenten von Roald Dahl, der dem Buch zur Veröffentlichung verhalf (1985). Nach seinem Studium an der University of Toronto (Englisch und Filmwissenschaften) und einer kurzen Tätigkeit bei einem Verlag entschied sich Oppel für eine Karriere als Schriftsteller. Oppel lebt mit seiner Gattin Philippa Sheppard und seinen drei Kindern in Toronto, Ontario.

Sein bekanntestes Werk sind die Fledermaus-Bücher, die in drei Bänden die Abenteuer von jungen Fledermäusen in kindgerechter Sprache erzählen und einige Fantasy-Elemente aufweisen. Das vierte Buch der Reihe, Darkwing, handelt 65 Millionen Jahre in der Vergangenheit und erzählt, wie die erste Fledermaus entdeckt, dass sie die Gabe des Fliegens besitzt.
