Als Kantharos bezeichnet man ein antikes, griechisches becherartiges Trinkgefäß mit zwei an der Lippe ansetzenden, tief herabgeführten, vertikalen und weit ausgeschweiften Henkeln.

Eine Berliner Wohlfahrtsbriefmarke von 1986 zeigt einen Kantharos aus dem 1. Jahrhundert.

Der Kantharos ist auch als Trinkgefäß der Götter, beispielsweise des Dionysos, belegt. Nicht selten diente er als Votivgabe oder auch als Kultgegenstand im privaten Bereich. Neben dem Gebrauchswert als Trinkgefäß kommt ihm also auch eine religiöse Bedeutung zu. Tatsächlich wurde der Kantharos zunächst nur im Kult verwendet.
