Jukebox-Musical

Ein Jukebox-Musical (engl. Jukebox = Musikbox) ist ein Film- oder Bühnen-Musical ohne Original-Score bzw. -Partitur.

Entweder wird in diesen Musicals ein Potpourri bereits veröffentlichter Lieder in eine Handlung eingebettet, z. B. Alle sagen: I love you und Singin’ in the Rain, oder um diese Songs herum wird eine Geschichte konstruiert, die mit den Liedtexten oder möglicherweise mit den Biografien der Komponisten oder Interpreten zusammenhängt, z. B. Mamma Mia! und Piaf je t'aime. Manchmal werden dabei die Texte der Lieder mehr oder weniger stark angepasst. Ein Beispiel hierfür ist der Song „Radio Ga Ga“ aus We Will Rock You.

Auch Musicals, die große Teile eines Original-Scores verwenden, aber durch weitere Schlager (oft derselben Komponisten bzw. Interpreten) angereichert oder mit einem neuen Buch versehen sind, werden bisweilen als Jukebox-Musical bezeichnet, z. B. My One and Only.
