John Henry Holland

John Henry Holland (* 2. Februar 1929 in Indiana) studierte am Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) und schloss an der University of Michigan als erster Absolvent des Faches Informatik mit Promotion ab. Heute lehrt er dort Psychologie, Electrical Engineering und Computer Science.

Er gilt als Begründer des Genetischen Algorithmus zur Lösung komplexer Optimierungsprobleme und des Evolutionären Algorithmus. Er ist auch Begründer des von ihm Namensgebenden Komplexes Adaptives System. Der nach ihm benannte Schemasatz ist zentraler theoretischer Bestandteil dieses Gebiets.
