John Aloysius Ward

John Aloysius Ward (* 24. Januar 1929 in Doncaster bei Leeds, England; † 27. März 2007 in Wales) war Kapuziner und Erzbischof von Cardiff.

Leben

John Aloysius Ward trat am 7. Dezember 1945 dem Orden der Kapuziner (Orden der Minderen Brüder Kapuziner; lateinisch: Ordo Fratrum Minorum Capucinorum - OFMCap) bei, legte am 25. Dezember 1950 Ewige Profess ab und empfing am 7. Juni 1953 die Priesterweihe. In den Jahren 1970 bis 1980 war er Generaldefinitor des Kapuziner-Ordens.

1980 wurde er von Johannes Paul II. zum Koadjutor des Bistums Menevia in Wales ernannt. Die Bischofsweihe spendete ihm am 1. Oktober 1980 Langton Douglas Fox, Bischof von Menevia, Wales; Mitkonsekratoren waren John Aloysius Murphy, Erzbischof von Cardiff, und Daniel Joseph Mullins, damaliger Weihbischof in Cardiff. 1983 erfolgte als Nachfolger von John Aloysius Murphy die Ernennung zum Erzbischof von Cardiff. 2001 wurde er wegen sexueller Übergriffe an einem sieben Jahre alten Mädchen, die 30 Jahre lang zurücklagen, vom Papst zum Rücktritt aufgefordert. Ferner hatte Ward zwei pädokriminelle Priester gedeckt.[1]
