Japantown

Japantown (deutsch: Japanstadt oder japanische Stadt) ist ein gebräuchlicher Name für eine japanisch-amerikanische bzw. japanisch-kanadische Gemeinschaft in großen Städten. Japantowns lassen sich in ihrem Aufbau mit Chinatowns vergleichen.

Des Weiteren werden Japantowns auch öfter Little Tokyo, Nihonmachis oder J-Towns genannt.

USA

In den USA gibt es in mehreren Städten Japantowns, eine der größten ist die von Los Angeles (siehe: Little Tokyo). Auch San Francisco besitzt eine Japantown.

Kanada

In Kanada befindet sich die größte Japantown in Vancouver.

Brasilien

Liberdade ist eine Japantown in der brasilianischen Metropole São Paulo. Liberdade ist die größte japanische Stadt außerhalb Japans.

Deutschland

In Deutschland befindet sich eine Japantown in Düsseldorf. Fast jeder fünfte Japaner in Deutschland lebt in Ober- und Niederkassel westlich des Rheins. Die Düsseldorfer Japantown wird auch umgangssprachlich Nippon am Rhein genannt und hat etwa 6.000 Einwohner und über 400 japanische Unternehmen.
