American LaFrance (ALF) ist der weltweit fünftgrößte Hersteller von Feuerwehr- und Rettungsfahrzeugen in Summerville, South Carolina, USA mit einer bis in das Jahr 1832 zurückreichenden Geschichte.

Geschichte

Die eigentliche American LaFrance Fire Engine Company wurde 1903 gegründet. Die Fertigungsanlagen wurden in Elmira, New York eingerichtet.

Produkte

American LaFrance produziert und vertreibt ein umfassendes Programm an Feuerwehr- und Rettungsfahrzeugen. Dazu gehören Fahrgestelle, Krankenwagen, Tanklöschfahrzeuge und Drehleiterfahrzeuge für Feuerwehren sowie Tankwagen.

Erhaltene Fahrzeuge

Eine größere Anzahl von ALF-Fahrzeugen ist im Auto- und Technik-Museum Sinsheim zu sehen.

Rennwagen

Schon seit den zwanziger Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts wurden Feuerwehrwagen zu Rennwagen umgebaut, meist Speedster genannt. Dazu wurden die Rahmen gekürzt und die Ausstattung auf das Notwendigste reduziert.[1]
