Isotype

Isotype (Englisch: International System of Typographic Picture Education; Deutsch: Internationales System der Erziehung durch Bilder) wurde von dem österreichischen Pädagogen und Philosophen Otto Neurath in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Grafiker Gerd Arntz entwickelt. Neurath war der Ansicht, dass – zumindest in den Anfangsstadien des Lernens – Bilder hilfreicher als Worte sind. Er entwickelt deshalb in Kooperation mit Arntz und weiteren eine Anzahl von Piktogrammen und Regeln für deren Gestaltung, um komplexe Sachverhalte in eine Form zu bringen, die sowohl offensichtlich als auch genau war.

Weitere Bedeutungen oder Assoziation können entweder durch die Farbe oder die Textur vermittelt werden.
