Intramural

Intramural (von lat. intra „hinein“, „innen“ und murus „Mauer“) ist ein anatomischer und pathologischer Begriff. Er bedeutet „in der Organwand gelegen“. Damit soll ausgedrückt werden, dass eine Struktur oder ein Prozess – beispielsweise ein Nerv, eine Entzündung oder ein Tumor – im Organgewebe liegt und nicht in dem vom Organ umschlossenen Hohlraum.

Das Gegenteil von intramural ist extramural (außerhalb der Wand des Organhohlraumes).

Beispiele

  • Der Harnleiter verläuft nach seinem Eintritt in die Harnblase kurzes Stück innerhalb der Harnblasenwand, das heißt intramural. Man spricht dabei von der intramuralen Lage in der Blasenwand.
  • Der Plexus myentericus ist Teil der intramuralen Nervensystem (Enterisches Nervensystem)
  • Morbus Crohn ist eine chronisch rezidivierende intramurale Entzündung.[1]
  • Ein intramurales Myom kann zu massiv verstärkten und/oder verlängerten Regelblutungen führen.
  • Bei einer intramuralen Schwangerschaft nistet sich die Frucht im intramuralen Abschnitt des Eileiters ein.[2] Diese seltene Form der Fehleinnistung ist für die Mutter oft lebensbedrohlich.[3]

Weitere Bedeutungen

  • Gelegentlich wird in Deutschland mit intramural der öffentliche Bereich im Gesundheitswesen („innerhalb der Krankenhausmauern“) bezeichnet[4]. In Österreich bezeichnet intramuraler Bereich den Bereich der Krankenanstalten [5] im Gegensatz zum extramuralen Bereich als den Bereich der niedergelassenen Versorgung.
  • Die Gesundheitsfürsorge in Gefängnissen wird als Intramurale Medizin bezeichnet.[6] Auch Sexualtherapeuten bezeichnen ihre Tätigkeit innerhalb von Gefängnismauern als intramurale Behandlung.
