International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics

Der International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) hat zum Ziel, die angewandte Mathematik international zu fördern. Dies geschieht durch regelmäßige Treffen in Form von Kongressen. Die ICIAM findet alle 4 Jahre in einem anderen Land statt. Dabei wird versucht, oft den Kontinent zu wechseln. Bisher wurde er aber erst in Europa, Nordamerika und Australien ausgerichtet.

Diese Kongressreihe begann 1987 in Paris und wurde in Washington D.C., Hamburg, Edinburgh und Sydney fortgesetzt.

2007 ist der Veranstaltungsort Zürich. Der Veranstalter ist die ETH und die Universität Zürich. 2011 ist der nächste Kongress in Vancouver geplant.

Die Konferenzthemen umfassen u.a. Numerische Methoden, Differentialgleichungen, Wellen und Wavelets. Des Weiteren wird in dieser Reihe mit der "Gesellschaft für angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik GAMM" zusammengearbeitet. Dadurch konnte das Themengebiet um 14 Forschungsbereiche erweitert werden. Es wurden insgesamt 2877 Vorträge gehalten.

Auf dem Kongress finden auch mathematische Gesellschaften von den restlichen Kontinenten eine Plattform. Es gibt eine Kollaboration mit der "African Math Union (AMU)", "China Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIAM)" und der "European Society for Mathematical und Theoretical Biology (ESMTB)".
