International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria

Der International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria (Bacteriological Code) (ICNB, Internationaler Code der Nomenklatur der Bakterien (Bakteriologischer Code)) regelt die Erstellung wissenschaftlicher Namen der Prokaryoten.[1] Dieser Code wird auf der Website des NCBI veröffentlicht.[2] Er ist Bestandteil der biologischen Nomenklatur.

Bis 1975 wurde der Internationale Code der Botanischen Nomenklatur (ICBN) zur Benennung von Bakterien verwendet. Beim vierten Internationalen Kongress für Mikrobiologie wurde 1947 ein Code genehmigt,[3] dieser fand jedoch geringe Verbreitung. Als Startpunkt für den derzeit gültigen Code wurde der 1. Januar 1980 vereinbart.

Zurzeit wird der Code vom International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes (ICSP) überwacht und veröffentlicht. In Zukunft soll der Code International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes genannt werden. Eine bacterial nomenclature up-to-date ist bei der Deutschen Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen (DSMZ) einzusehen.
