Der Internationale Kanuverband (International Canoe Federation, ICF) ist der Dachverband der nationalen Kanuverbände weltweit. Die ICF ist Mitglied im Internationalen Olympischen Komitee, der GAISF und der IWGA und vertritt dort die Belange des Kanusports.
Geschichte
Am 19. Januar 1924 gründeten Deutschland, Dänemark, Österreich und Schweden die Internationale Repräsentantenschaft Kanusport (IRK) mit Sitz in München und dem Deutschen Franz Reinicke als Präsident.
1946 wurde in Stockholm der Internationale Kanuverband (ICF) als Nachfolgeorganisation (unter Ausschluss Deutschlands) gegründet.
1952 wurden der Deutsche Kanu-Verband (DKV) und der Deutsche Kanusport-Verband der DDR (DKSV) aufgenommen. Inzwischen (Stand: 2007) hat die ICF 146 nationale Mitgliedsorganisationen, die größte ist der DKV mit 113.000 Mitgliedern.
Organisation
Alle zwei Jahre findet ein ICF-Kongress statt, bei dem Wahlen durchgeführt und wichtige Entscheidungen gefällt werden. Der letzte Kongress fand im Januar 2007 in Hongkong statt. Jeder nationale Verband hat dabei (unabhängig von der Größe) eine Stimme.
Der Sitz der ICF befindet sich seit 2006 in Lausanne.
Als Dachorganisation ist sie Veranstalter von Weltmeisterschaften in acht Kanu-Disziplinen. Anders als ihre nationalen und kontinentalen Mitgliedsorganisationen kümmert sich die ICF nicht um Kanuwandersport und den sonstigen nicht-wettkampforientierten Sport.
Präsident der ICF ist seit 20088 der Spanier José Perurena López, Generalsekretär der Brite Simon Toulson.
