Die Indian PC-1 (auch Tezpur oder fälschlicherweise Naga Jolokia) ist eine Varietät der Paprika-Art Capsicum frutescens, welche laut einem Artikel indischer Wissenschaftler aus dem Jahr 2000 die schärfsten Paprikafrüchte der Welt hervorbringen soll. In neueren Veröffentlichungen wird die Pflanze zum Teil aber auch Capsicum annuum oder Capsicum chinense zugeordnet.

Die Wissenschaftler um Ritesh Mathur gaben an, eine Schärfe von 855.000 Scoville-Einheiten gemessen zu haben, was 4,28 % Capsaicin und 1,42 % Dihydrocapsaicin entspricht. Dies würde die bisher als am schärfsten angesehene Chili, die Red Savina mit gemessenen 577.000 Scoville-Einheiten, deutlich übertreffen.

Jedoch werden die veröffentlichten Ergebnisse außerhalb Indiens angezweifelt, da die im Artikel vorgestellte wissenschaftliche Herangehensweise fragwürdig ist. So wurde der zur Schärfebestimmung verwendete Hochleistungsflüssigchromatographietest ohne Kalibrierung durchgeführt, was dazu führt, dass nur relative Ergebnisse gemessen werden konnten. Eine Frucht der Red Savina, mit der Vergleiche hätten vorgenommen werden können, hatten die Wissenschaftler nicht zur Verfügung. Zudem wurde außerhalb Indiens von keinen vergleichbaren Messergebnissen berichtet. Eine Analyse aus Australien ergab weniger als ein Drittel der Schärfe der Red Savina, jedoch wurde hierbei nicht das Originalsaatgut verwendet. Allgemein wird angenommen, dass die vom indischen Militär geförderte Arbeit eher als Propagandamittel dienen soll, da im Artikel auch auf eine mögliche Anwendung des Capsaicins als Kampfstoff (genauer gesagt als Pfefferspray) hingewiesen wird. Anfragen an die indischen Wissenschaftler, Details zu den Messmethoden oder Proben der verwendeten Chilis preiszugeben, blieben unbeantwortet.

Im April 2006 wurde mit der Bekanntgabe einer Messung von 923.000 Scoville-Einheiten bei der Capsicum chinense-Züchtung Dorset Naga die unbestätigte Rekordmarke der Indian PC-1 nochmal übertroffen.
