Ijtihad

Idschtihad (arabischاجتهاد‎ idschtihād, „Anstrengung“) ist ein terminus technicus des islamischen Rechts und umfasst das Verfahren zur Rechtsfindung durch eine unabhängige Interpretation der beiden Rechtsquellen Koran und Sunna. Das Gegenteil von Idschtihad ist taqlīd, „Imitation“/„Nachahmung“. Jeder Anwender des Idschtihad muss ein Gelehrter des islamischen Rechts (mudschtahid) sein.

Sunnitische Aspekte des Idschtihad

In der Frühzeit des Islam war Idschtihad eine übliche Praxis und gut mit kalām, seinem säkularen Gegenpart, verwoben. Mit der Zeit kam es aus mehreren Gründen aus der Mode, vor allem aufgrund des Betreibens der ascharitischen Theologen, die darin eine durch Vermessenheit begründete Fehlerquelle sahen. Al-Ghazali war der herausragendste dieser Kritiker und sein Werk Die Inkohärenz der Philosophen wurde so zu einem Standardwerk dieser Ansicht.

Es ist umstritten, ob al-Ghazali die „Schließung der Tore des Idschtihad“ nur beobachtet oder gar eingeleitet hatte. Einigen Stimmen zufolge begann dieser Prozess am Anfang des 10. Jahrhunderts, einige Jahrhunderte nach den Endrevisionen der Hadithe.
