Hilderich (Hilderic; * um 460; † 533 in Karthago) war ein König der Vandalen in Afrika.

Regentschaft

Hilderich war ein Enkel des Geiserich und Sohn des Hunerich. Er wurde nach dem Tod seines Vetters Thrasamund im Jahr 523 zum König erhoben. Er brach mit den Ostgoten und näherte sich an das Byzantinische Reich an. Er ließ sogar auf seinen Münzen nicht sein Porträt, sondern das des oströmischen Kaisers prägen - zuvor waren die Vandalen die einzigen gewesen, die dieses Privileg des Kaisers missachtet hatten. Aufgrund dessen erhob sich schließlich die vandalische "Nationalpartei", die besonders nach einer schweren Niederlage des Königs gegen die Mauren von seiner Unfähigkeit überzeugt war, und mit ihrer Hilfe riss Gelimer im August 530 den Thron an sich.

Die Zeit danach

Als nun der oströmische Kaiser Justinian I. Gelimer nicht anerkannte und 533 den Krieg gegen die Vandalen eröffnete, ließ Gelimer im September nach Belisars Landung in Afrika Hilderich in Karthago hinrichten, um zu verhindern, dass dieser angesichts des Erscheinens der Oströmer wieder auf den Thron gelangen könnte.
