Henry Ward Beecher (* 24. Juni 1813 in Litchfield, Connecticut; † 8. März 1887 in Brooklyn, N.Y.) war kongregationalistischer US-amerikanischer Prediger.

Werdegang

Er wurde als achtes von dreizehn Kindern des presbyterianischen Theologen Lyman Beecher geboren. Eine seiner Schwestern ist die Schriftstellerin Harriet Beecher Stowe. Nach dem Studium wurde er 1839 Prediger in Indianapolis, 1847 dann in Brooklyn. In seinen schon zu Lebzeiten als Bücher erschienenen Predigten trat er für die Gleichberechtigung der Frau und für die Befreiung der Sklaven ein.
