Henry Roth

Henry Roth (* 8. Februar 1906, bei Stanislau, Galizien, Österreich-Ungarn; † 13. Oktober 1995 in Albuquerque, New Mexico) war ein jüdisch-amerikanischer Romancier und Verfasser von Kurzgeschichten.

Sein erster Roman Nenn es Schlaf wurde 1934 veröffentlicht. Er beschreibt die Kindheit eines Sohnes jüdisch-galizischer Einwanderer in der armen New Yorker East Side und trägt autobiographische Züge. Das Buch gilt als ein Meisterwerk dieses Genres.

Nach einer Schreibpause von fast 60 Jahren schloss sich der autobiographische Romanzyklus Die Gnade eines wilden Stroms (Mercy of a Rude Stream) an.
