Henry Ross Perot (* 27. Juni 1930 in Texarkana, Texas) ist ein US-amerikanischer Unternehmer und Politiker.

Karriere in der Wirtschaft

Nachdem er einige Jahre bei IBM als Verkäufer beschäftigt war, gründete Perot im Jahr 1962 mit der Electronic Data Systems Corporation (EDS) das nach Firmenangaben erste IT-Dienstleistungsunternehmen der Welt. Perot verkaufte die Firma 1984 an den Konzern General Motors und blieb bis 1987 Vorstandsvorsitzender.

Die Perot Systems Corporation (NYSE: PER) ist ein Informationstechnologie-Serviceanbieter mit Sitz in Plano/Texas. Sie wurde am 1.Juni 1988 von Ross Perot gegründet und ist in den USA, Europa, Indien und Mexiko und seit 2008 auch in China vertreten. Familie Perot hält 25 Prozent der Anteile. Die Firma hat ca. 23.100 Beschäftigte. [1]


Politik

Perot kandidierte als parteiloser Kandidat bei der Präsidentschaftswahl 1992, bei der er mit 18,91% ein beachtliches Ergebnis erreichte. In Maine (30,44%) und Utah (27,34%) erreichte er sogar den zweiten Platz, vor George H. W. Bush bzw. Bill Clinton. 1995 gründete er die Reform Party, deren Kandidat er bei der Präsidentschaftswahl 1996 war, wo er jedoch nur noch 8,40% erhielt. 2000 kandidierte er nicht mehr[2].

Die Autobiographie heißt My Life & the Principles for Success. Arlington, Texas: Summit Publication Group, 1996, ISBN 1565302370.

Ein Buch, in dem Ross Perot als Figur in einem Tatsachen-Thriller vorkommt, ist Auf den Schwingen des Adlers von Ken Follett. Es wurde im Jahr 1986 unter gleichem Titel von Hollywood verfilmt.
