Hell Awaits ist das zweite Album der kalifornischen Thrash Metal-Band Slayer und wurde 1985 auf Metal Blade Records veröffentlicht.

Geschichte

Slayers Debütalbum, der LP-Vorgänger Show No Mercy, war Metal Blade Records' meistverkaufte Veröffentlichung, was den Produzenten Brian Slagel dazu veranlasste ein weiteres Album mit der Band aufzunehmen. Nachdem Show No Mercy von Slayer selbst finanziert wurde, tat dies für Hell Awaits Slagel und verpflichtete außerdem mehrere erfahrene Mitarbeiter, um im Studio auszuhelfen.

Hell Awaits war das bis dato progressivste Werk der Band und setzt mehr auf schnellere Thrash-orientierte Songs und wird von vielen extremen Metal-Bands als Einfluss genannt. Das Album enthält mehrere Wiederveröffentlichungen, inklusive Bonussongs von der EP Haunting the Chapel.
