Heavy D. & the Boyz war eine US-amerikanische Hip-Hop-Band, deren Frontman Heavy D. mit seinen 250 Pfund optisch sehr prominent war und die um 1990 mit mehreren Alben sehr erfolgreich waren.

Heavy D. & the Boys waren die erste Band, die beim Plattenlabel Uptown Records unter Vertrag genommen wurde. Sie veröffentlichten ihr Debütalbum Living Large 1987 mit einem ansehnlichen kommerziellen Erfolg. Der Durchbruch gelang ihnen jedoch mit Big Tyme 1989. 1990 starb einer der Boyz, Trouble T-Roy, bei einem Bühnenunfall. Das 1990er Album Peaceful Journey wurde ihm als Tribute-Album gewidmet und spielte für die Band Platin ein. Unter Anderem waren an diesem Album folgende Gast-Musiker beteiligt: Big Daddy Kane, Kool G. Rap, Grand Puba, Q-Tip, Johnny Gill, C.L. Smooth, Pete Rock, Aaron Hall und Daddy Freddy


1990 startete die US-Comedy-Serie In Living Color, für die Heavy D. im Titelsong rappte. Sein folgendes Album Blue Funk floppte allerdings und Heavy D. konzentrierte sich auf die Schauspielerei mit Rollen in den Fernsehshows Roc und Living Single, später auch in Riff Raff und den Filmen Life und The Cider House Rules.

1991 steuerte Heavy D. den Rap-Part zu Michael Jacksons Song Jam von dem Album Dangerous bei.

1994 erschien Nuttin' But Love und war relativ erfolgreich. Das 1997er Album Waterbed Hev war ein kommerzieller Erfolg, danach widmete sich Heavy D. der Fernsehshow Boston Public.
