HarperCollins ist ein US-amerikanischer Verlag. Er geht auf den schottischen Verlag Collins zurück, der von dem presbyterianischen Schulleiter William Collins sen. 1819 in Glasgow zusammen mit Charles Chalmers, dem jüngeren Bruder von Thomas Chalmers, Pfarrer der Tron Church, gegründet wurde. Die Firma mussten in frühen Jahren viele Hindernisse überwinden und Charles Chamlers verließ das Geschäft 1825. Der Erfolg kam 1841 mit dem Druck von Bibeln. 1848 entwickelt Collins' Sohn William Collins jun. die Firma zu einem Verlagsunternehmen, das sich auf religiöse Schriften und Lehrbücher spezialisierte. Die Firma wurde 1868 in William Collins, Sons & Co. umbenannt.

Trotz dieser anfänglichen Beschränkung veröffentlichte Collins in vielen Bereichen. 1917 begann die Firma unter der Leitung von Sir Godfrey Collins, fiktionale Werke zu veröffentlichen. Dazu gehörten auch - bis auf die ersten sechs - alle Romane von Agatha Christie. Als man die Rechte an den Werken von C. S. Lewis erwarb, wurde Fount als religiöser Imprint etabliert.

1989 wurde Collins von Rupert Murdochs News Corporation übernommen. Nach der Fusion mit dem US-amerikanischen-Verlag Harper & Row, handeln sie jetzt unter dem Namen HarperCollins.

Collins wird immer noch als Imprint verwendet, v.a. für Bücher über Wildlife und Biologie (darunter die laufende New Naturalist-Serie) sowie Natur-Exkursionen. Außerdem gehören englische und bilinguale Wörterbücher, die auf dem Korpus Bank of English mit modernen englischen Texten basieren.

Weltweiter Chief Executive Officer von HarperCollins ist Brian Murray. [1]
