Alice Blackwell (* 14. September 1857 in East Orange, New Jersey; † 15. März 1950 in Cambridge, Massachusetts) war eine US-amerikanische Journalistin, Feministin und Menschenrechtsaktivistin.

Leben

Alice Blackwell war die einzige Tochter des Abolitionisten Henry Browne Blackwell (1825–1909) und seiner Ehefrau Lucy Stone (1818−1893), der Sozialreformerin und Publizistin; sowie die erste amerikanische Ehefrau die ihren Geburtsnamen behielt. Elizabeth und Emily Blackwell, die ersten amerikanischen Ärztinnen, waren Blackwells Tanten.

Alice Blackwell studierte an der Boston University und erhielt im Jahre 1881 ihren Abschluss. Darauf arbeitete sie als Zeitungskorrespondentin bei der „Woman’s Journal“, die wichtigste Zeitung der amerikanischen Frauenbewegung. Nach dem Tod ihrer Mutter übernahm sie die Leitung der Zeitung als Chefredakteurin und war bis zu ihrem Tod Herausgeberin der Zeitung. Alice Blackwell engagierte sich auch in der Frauenorganisation American Woman’s Suffrage Association (AWSA).

Alice Blackwell starb unverheiratet in ihrem Haus an den Folgen eines Herzinfarkts und wurde auf dem Friedhof Forest Hills Cemetery and Crematory bestattet.
