Guarda ist eine Stadt in Portugal. Guarda liegt in der Serra da Estrela und ist die höchstgelegene Stadt (1056 m ü. NN) Portugals.

Geschichte

Kathedrale (Sé) von Guarda

Guarda ist seit dem 6. Jahrhundert Bischofssitz. Guarda bekam das Stadtrecht wahrscheinlich im Jahre 1199. In Guarda etwa ist noch eine - längst anderweitig genutzte - alte sephardische Synagoge zu sehen.

Verwaltung

Guarda ist Sitz eines gleichnamigen Distriktes und eines gleichnamigen Kreises. Die Nachbarkreise sind (im Uhrzeigersinn im Norden beginnend): Pinhel, Almeida, Sabugal, Belmonte, Covilhã, Manteigas, Gouveia sowie Celorico da Beira.
