Group of Pictures

Die Group of Pictures (GOP) bzw. Bildgruppe ist eine Gruppe von aufeinanderfolgenden Einzelbildern (engl. Frames) im Bilderstrom eines Videos.

Jeder MPEG-codierte Film bzw. Videostrom besteht aus aufeinanderfolgenden GOPs. Aus den darin enthaltenen MPEG-Bildern werden die sichtbaren Einzelbilder generiert.

Eine GOP kann folgende Bildtypen enthalten:

  • I-Bild bzw. I-Frame (engl. intra-coded picture) Referenzbild, entspricht einem Standbild und ist von anderen Bildtypen unabhängig. Jede GOP beginnt mit diesem Bildtyp.
  • P-Bild bzw. P-Frame (engl. predictive-coded picture) enthält Differenz-Informationen aus dem vorhergehenden I- oder P-Bild.
  • B-Bild bzw. B-Frame (engl. bidirectionally predictive-coded picture) enthält Differenz-Informationen aus dem vorhergehenden und/oder nachfolgenden I- oder P-Bild.
  • D-Bild bzw. D-Frame (engl. DC direct coded picture) dient dem schnellen Vorlauf.

Aufbau

Eine GOP beginnt stets mit einem I-Bild. Danach folgen ein oder mehrere P-Bilder, jeweils mit einigen Bildern Abstand. In den verbleibenden Lücken befinden sich B-Bilder. Mit dem nächsten I-Bild beginnt eine neue GOP. Die folgende Grafik zeigt einen typischen Aufbau von GOPs innerhalb einer MPEG-Datei. Die Pfeile kennzeichnen die Referenzen.
