Goldwell ist eine Marke der KPSS-Kao Professional Salon Services GmbH, Darmstadt. Das deutsche Traditionsunternehmen vertreibt weltweit, friseurexklusiv Haarpflege- und Haarfärbeprodukte und wurde nach dem 2. Weltkrieg von dem damals 27-jährigen Friseur Erich Dotter mit dem ursprünglichen Unternehmensnamen Goldwell in Darmstadt gegründet und hat dort auch seinen Firmensitz. Die Firmengruppe vertreibt die Produkte über 22 eigene Tochtergesellschaften und weitere Distributeure, wobei die wichtigsten Absatzmärkte in Deutschland, USA und UK liegen. Der Konzernumsatz betrug 2010 € 317,5Mio (2009 € 295,2Mio).

Bekannt war die rosafarbene Haarspray-Dose (Sprühgold) des Herstellers, die in vielen Friseursalons in Deutschland zum Einsatz kam.

Der Firmengründer leitete das Unternehmen bis 1989 und im selben Jahr wurde Goldwell ein Teil des japanischen Chemie- und Kosmetikunternehmen Kao Corporation, Tokio. In der Folge verkaufte Goldwell die Produktion an die Firma Reichardt, Erzhausen und lagerte die Logistik zur EDS (European Distribution Services) Biebesheim aus (ein Joint Venture 40/60% mit dem Logistik Anbieter Kayser, Mainz). Nach dem Erwerb der Marke KMS California firmierte die Goldwell GmbH zur KPSS-Kao Professional Salon Services GmbH um. Die Produktion in Eberstadt wurde am 1. Juli 2009 von der Schwestergesellschaft Kao Corporation von der Firma Reichardt zurückerworben und stellt Produkte für Kao Konzerngesellschaften her. Eine weitere Schwestergesellschaft ist die Guhl Ikebana GmbH (Kao Brands Germany), Griesheim.

Das Unternehmen zählte 2010 weltweit 1418 Mitarbeiter. Produkte von Goldwell werden in mehr als 60 Staaten verkauft, darunter USA, Südafrika und Australien, Japan und Skandinavien.

In Deutschland werden die Marken Goldwell und KMS California durch die KPSS-Kao Professional Salon Services GmbH in Darmstadt vertreten.
