Der Begriff Ausfällpunkt bzw. Freezing Point (FRP; auch Freeze Point) bezeichnet eine Eigenschaft von Jet- und AvGas-Flugtreibstoffen. Er stellt die tiefste Temperatur dar, bei der Treibstoff verwendbar ist. Bei tieferen Temperaturen kommt es zu Ausfällungen von Paraffinen.

Ausfäll- vs. Stockpunkt

Da Flugtreibstoff eine Mischung vieler verschiedener Stoffe ist, lässt sich kein physikalischer Gefrierpunkt, sondern lediglich ein Gefrier- bzw. Schmelzintervall angeben. Der Ausfällpunkt ist die obere Temperatur dieses Temperaturintervalls. Die untere Temperatur des Intervalls nennt man Stockpunkt (engl. pour point). Laut den entsprechenden Flugtreibstoffspezifikationen liegt der Stockpunkt ca. 6 °C unter dem Ausfällpunkt.

Ausfäll- vs. Kristallisationspunkt

Bei Dieselkraftstoff, Heizöl EL und diversen Marinedieselölsorten nennt man die obere Temperatur des Schmelzintervalls Kristallisationspunkt (engl. cloud point), fälschlich auch Trübungspunkt. Sie wird ähnlich wie der Ausfällpunkt bestimmt.

Bestimmung

Zur Ermittlung des Ausfällpunktes (ASTM D 2386[1]) wird eine Probe unter definierten Bedingungen abgekühlt, bis sie durch die Bildung von Paraffinkristallen trüb oder wolkig wird. Anschließend wird die Probe wieder aufgeheizt. Die Temperatur, an der die Probe wieder klar erscheint, wird als Ausfällpunkt bezeichnet. Die Messung wird heutzutage automatisch mit Hilfe von Fotozellen durchgeführt.

Bedeutung in der Luftfahrt

Der Ausfällpunkt ist neben dem Flammpunkt die wichtigste sicherheitsrelevante Qualität der diversen Jet-Grades. Er gibt an, ab welcher Temperatur Krafstofffilter bzw. Einspritzdüsen verstopfen können. Piloten sind gehalten, die Kerosintemperatur nie unter FRP+3 °C abfallen zu lassen[2]. Falls sie in diese kritische Situation kommen sollten, müssen sie tiefer fliegen[2] oder die Mach-Zahl erhöhen[2] (erhöhte Reibung an der Außenhaut).

Den Ausfällpunkt verbessernde Zusätze (Additive) sind in den Jet-Sorten nicht zugelassen.
