Die Free Software Foundation Europe (kurz FSFE) nahm am 10. März 2001 offiziell ihre Arbeit als europäische Schwesterorganisation der US-amerikanischen Free Software Foundation auf.

Finanziell, juristisch und personell unabhängig und organisatorisch der nordamerikanischen FSF gleichgestellt, kümmert sie sich um alle Belange von Freier Software mit Schwerpunkt Europa. Gemeinsam mit anderen Free Software Foundations kümmert sie sich um die globalen Perspektiven und hat beispielsweise sehr starke Verbindungen nach Asien und Südamerika.

Die Free Software Foundation Europe ist eine gemeinnützige, regierungsunabhängige Organisation. Sie ist unter anderem Mituntertützerorganisation der überwachungskritischen Datenschutzdemonstration Freiheit statt Angst.[1]

Ihr Präsident ist Georg Greve.
