FACCH

Innerhalb des GSM-Systems für Mobiltelefone existieren verschiedene so genannte Control Channels (CCH), also Steuerungskanäle die zur Signalisierung insbesondere für die Mobilität und die Kanalzuweisung verwendet werden.

  • Broadcast Control Channel (BCCH)
  • Frequency Correction Channel (FCCH)
  • Synchronization Channel (SCH)
  • Common Control Channel (CCCH)
    • Random Access Channel (RACH)
    • Paging Channel (PCH)
    • Access Grant Channel (AGCH)
  • Dedicated Control Channel (DCCH)
    • Stand-alone Dedicated Control Channel (SDCCH)
    • Slow Associated Control Channel (SACCH)
    • Fast Associated Control Channel (FACCH)

Über SDCCH oder FACCH werden SMS übertragen.

Für GPRS gibt es noch weitere control channel, die alle mit dem Buchstaben P für Packet beginnen:

  • Packet Broadcast Control Channel (PBCCH)
  • Packet Common Control Channel (PCCCH)
    • Packet Random Access Channel (PRACH)
    • Packet Paging Channel (PPCH)
    • Packet Access Grant Channel (PAGCH)
  • Packet Associated Dedicated Control Channel (PACCH)
  • Packet Timing advance Control Channel Uplink (PTCCH/U)
  • Packet Timing advance Control Channel Downlink (PTCCH/D)

BCCH

Der Broadcast Control Channel (BCCH) (engl. für "Sende"kontrollkanal) ist ein Signalisierungskanal des digitalen GSM-Mobilfunknetzes.

Der BCCH dient zum Auffinden der Basisstation. Über den BCCH sendet die Basisstation Informationen (unidirektional - downlink) an die mobilen Geräte aus. Dies sind z. B. Kennzeichen des Netzes, Zellname, Zellenbereichsname (location area), Verfügbarkeit, verwendete Kanäle und Frequenzen der Zelle und der Nachbarzellen.

RACH

Der Random Access Channel (RACH) ist der einzige Common Channel der vom Endgerät Richtung Netzwerk sendet. Erhält das Endgerät über den PCH eine Nachricht, oder will das Endgerät einen Gespräch beginnen, eine SMS senden, usw., wird der RACH aktiv um mit dem Netzwerk in Kontakt zu treten. Die geschieht mit einer Channel Request Nachricht, die über ein „Zufallskanal“ gesendet wird um Kollisionen zu vermeiden.
