Extensor

Die Extension (von lat. extensio „Streckung“) ist die Streckung eines Gelenkes. Die gegenläufige Bewegung wird als Flexion bezeichnet.

Beim Sprung- und Handgelenk wird die Extension (Hebung der Fuß- oder Fingerspitze) beim Menschen meistens als Dorsalextension bezeichnet. An der Wirbelsäule wird meist der Begriff Reklination verwendet.

Wird ein Körperteil überstreckt, so spricht man von einer Hyperextension (z. B. beim Kniegelenk als Genu recurvatum).

Als Extensor bezeichnet man einen Skelettmuskel, der eine Streckung eines Gelenks vollzieht. In einigen anatomischen Muskelnamen, insbesondere bei Muskeln des Unterarms und des Unterschenkels, kommt der Begriff explizit als zweiter Namensteil vor, z. B. Musculus extensor carpi ulnaris („ellenseitiger Streckmuskel der Handwurzel“).
