Erythem (Erythema, von altgriechisch ἐρύθημα (erýthema) „Röte“, „Entzündung“[1]) ist ein dermatologischer Ausdruck für eine Hautrötung bedingt durch eine Mehrdurchblutung auf dem Boden einer Gefäßerweiterung und zählt zu den so genannten Primäreffloreszenzen.

Das Erythem kann in unterschiedlicher Größe, Farbintensität, Begrenzung und Dynamik auftreten. Es kann ein Symptom bei verschiedenen Infektionskrankheiten und Hauterkrankungen sein, jedoch auch unter normalen Umständen auftreten (zum Beispiel Schamröte: Erythema pudoris). Im Gegensatz zu Hauteinblutungen lässt das Erythem sich vorübergehend durch Druck entfärben.

Eine Rötung, die über 90 % der Körperoberfläche betrifft, wird als Erythrodermie bezeichnet.
