Air Siam

Air Siam (IATA Kürzel: VG) war die erste private Fluggesellschaft, die neben Thai Airways International, internationale Flugverbindungen (z. B. Bangkok-Hongkong-Tokyo-Honolulu-Los Angeles) anbot. Die Fluggesellschaft wurde 1965 gegründet. Der Flugbetrieb begann 1969/1970.

Es gab einen bunten Flugzeugmix, der sich aus gekauften und geleasten Flugzeugen zusammensetzte. Hier wurden u.a. die zweite je eingesetzte A300, oder die erste thailändische DC-10 eingesetzt. Diese DC-10 hatte mit 328 Sitzen die weltweit höchste Bestuhlung für diesen Flugzeugtyp.

Die thailändische Regierung bevorzugte für die internationalen Verbindungen die Thai Airways International. Desewegen wurde Air Siam von thailändischen Regierungsstellen immer wieder Hürden gelegt. Die Probleme gipfelten 1974 darin, dass die geplante Verbindung nach Los Angeles erst 1975 mit einer DC-10 bedient werden konnten.

Wirtschaftliche Schwierigkeiten führten schließlich 1977 zum Konkurs.

Es kamen untenstehende Flugzeuge zum Einsatz. Es wurde keine Maschine durch Absturz verloren. D.h. diese konnten weiterverkauft werden (z. B. Israels AirForce), oder wurden nach Ablauf der Leasingdauer zurückgegeben (z. B. Airbus).
