Enol

Enole sind chemische Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel R1-CR2=CR3-OH. Ihre Hydroxylfunktion ist schwach sauer, weil die negative Ladung des Enolats mesomeriestabilisiert ist. Enole (linke Formel) bilden eine Tautomerie mit Ketonen (rechte Formel: R³= Alkyl- oder Arylrest) oder Aldehyden (rechte Formel: R³= H):

R1-CR2=CR3-OH \leftrightharpoons R1-CHR2-(CO)R3

Bei aliphatischen Enolen liegt das Gleichgewicht wegen der energetischen Begünstigung vollständig auf der Keto-Seite, weshalb Enole nur selten vorkommen (beispielsweise als Phosphoenolpyruvat (PEP), dem Phosphorsäureester der enolisierten Brenztraubensäure). Bei den Phenolen hingegen ist es genau umgekehrt: Hier ist die Enolform der Ketoform aufgrund der Bildung eines aromatischen Systems bevorzugt (vgl. Hückel-Regel).
