Efua Theodora Sutherland

Efua Theodora Sutherland (* 27. Juni 1924 in Cape Coast; † 2. Januar 1996) ist eine aus Ghana stammende auf Englisch schreibende Schriftstellerin.

Sie studierte in Mapongo, Cambridge und am Londoner Institut für Orientalistik und Afrikanistik.

Nach ihrer Rückkehr nach Ghana gründete sie das Ghanaische Dramenstudio und wurde später auch im Bereich des experimentellen Theaters aktiv. Sie zählt zu den herausragendsten ghanaischen Dramenschriftstellern und ist Autorin einiger Dramen, die vorwiegend von der gegenwärtigen Situation im Land handeln. Jedoch schuf sie auch Kunstwerke unter Nutzung der einheimischen Mythologie, so unter anderem mit der Spinne Ananse, einer traditionellen Märchenheldin.
