Aggregator

Ein Aggregator ist eine Software oder ein Dienstleister, der Medieninhalte (engl. Begriff Content) sammelt und aufbereitet und für eine Zielgruppe neu zusammenstellt. Auf diese Weise werden z. B. Musik, Filme oder gedruckte Zeitschriftenfotos für den Leser gebündelt verfügbar gemacht.

Nachrichten-Aggregatoren

Im Dienstleistersektor bekannte Aggregatoren für Nachrichten sind unter anderem Google News und Yahoo! Nachrichten, die aus zahlreichen Quellen einen Überblick verschaffen. Ein Beispiel für einen Blog-Aggregator ist Bloglines. Auch Twitter kann als Newsaggregator genutzt werden.

Dienstleistungen

Im besten Fall lizenziert ein Aggregator Inhalte und paketiert unter Umständen auch bestehende Angebote als Dienstleister für Plattformbetreiber. Diese Pakete stellt der Aggregator dann zur Verfügung, so z. B. Pay-TV-Pakete für Netzbetreiber und Telekommunikationsunternehmen oder (audio-)visuelle Aufnahmen an digitale Retailer. Ein typisches Beispiel ist die Handelsbeziehung zwischen dem Aggregator Zebralution und dem Einzelhändler Apple iTunes. Die aufbereiteten bzw. paketierten Inhalte werden meist kostenpflichtig über Handelsplattformen bzw. andere Inhalteplattformen angeboten.

Als Beispiel für die Softwareseite sei die Outline Processor Markup Language genannt.
