Earl of Oxford ist einer der ältesten Adelstitel im englischen Adel und war über viele Jahrhunderte im Besitz der Familie de Vere. Er starb 1703 mit dem Tod des 20. Earl aus. Am bekanntesten wurde wohl Edward de Vere, 17. Earl of Oxford, da teilweise vermutet wurde, dass er der eigentlich Autor der Werke von William Shakespeare sei. Die Earls of Oxford waren bis zum Tod des 18. Earls im Jahr 1625 erbliche Inhaber des Amtes des Lord Great Chamberlain.

Der Titel des Earl of Oxford and Mortimer wurde im Adel von Großbritannien im Jahr 1711 an Robert Harley verliehen.

Der Titel des Earl of Oxford and Asquith wurde im Adel des Vereinigten Königreiches 1925 an den ehemaligen Premierminister Herbert Henry Asquith verliehen.

Sitz der Familie ist The Manor House bei Frome, Somerset.
