Dubbo ist eine Stadt im australischen Bundesstaat New South Wales und liegt am Macquarie River etwa 400 km nordwestlich von Sydney. Der zentral gelegene Ort ist ein Kreuzungspunkt wichtiger Nord-Süd- und West-Ost-Verbindungen von New South Wales.

Dubbo wurde 1849 gegründet und hat heute 30.574 Einwohner. Der Name stammt von den Wiradjuri-Aborigines, die die Gegend „Tubbo“, „Rote Erde“, nannten. [2]

Die Stadt ist einer der vier Hauptstandorte der Charles Sturt University. Größte Touristenattraktion Dubbos ist der Western Plains Zoo, das größte Freigehege Australiens. Mehr als tausend Tiere befinden sich dort auf 300 ha, neben den einheimischen Arten u. a. auch Bengalische und Weiße Tiger.

Dubbo besitzt einen kleinen Flughafen und ist Kreuzungspunkt wichtiger Hauptstraßen und Eisenbahnlinien. Eine Eisenbahnstrecke führt nach Newcastle, zwei führen nach Orange und von dort aus weiter nach Sydney, eine nach Cobar bzw. Bourke und eine weitere nach Coonamble.

Berühmter Sohn der Stadt ist der Cricketspieler Glenn McGrath.

Wilcannia ist Zentrum und Verwaltungssitz des lokalen Verwaltungsgebiets Dubbo City.
