Aegean Airlines ist eine griechische Fluggesellschaft mit Sitz in Athen.

Geschichte

Die Fluggesellschaft wurde 1987 als Aegean Aviation gegründet. Anfangs wurden nur Geschäftsflüge mit kleinen Privatjets durchgeführt. 1994 kaufte der Konzern Vassilakis die Fluggesellschaft und baute durch den Kauf von Learjets die Fluglinie weiter aus. Im März 1999 wurde die heutige Aegean Airlines gegründet, die im Mai desselben Jahres mit zwei Avro RJ100 die ersten Passagierflüge durchführte. Im gleichen Jahr schloss man sich mit der Air Greece zusammen. 2001 fusioniert Aegean Airlines mit Cronus Airlines. Seit November 2005 ist Aegean Partner der Lufthansa.

Eigentumsverhältnisse

Die wichtigsten Anteilseigner sind laut Geschäftsbericht 2007[2] Theodore Vassilakis (20,1 %), Athanasios Laskaridis (11,4 %), Panagiotis Laskarides (7,6 %), Cantel Participations (6,2 %), Transmarine (6,9 %), Autohellas (6,9 %) und Leonidas Ioannou (6,1 %).

Vorsitzender (Chairman of the Board of Directors) ist Theodore Vassilakis, Generaldirektor (Managning Director, Member of the Board of Director) Dimitris Gerogiannis.

Ziele

Aegean Airlines fliegt von Athen und Thessaloniki innergriechische europäische Ziele an und ist Codeshare-Partner der italienischen Air One, der Lufthansa und der TAP Portugal. Im Jahr 2007 wurden insgesamt 5.226.163 Passagiere befördert, davon 3.355.962 innerhalb Griechenlands und 1.870.201 auf internationalen Flügen. Aegean Airlines wurde mehrfach von der European Regional Airlines Association für Erfolg und Fairness ausgezeichnet: mit dem „Gold Award 2004/5 und 2008/9“, dem „Silver Award 2005/6 und 2006/7“ sowie dem „Bronze Award 2000/1“. Die Fluggesellschaft bietet elektronische Tickets und ein Vielfliegerprogramm an.
