Diazoniumsalze sind eine Stoffklasse organisch-chemischer Verbindungen mit der allgemeinen Strukturformel R-N2+. Dabei stellt R einen organischen, meist aromatischen Rest dar. Die einfachsten Vertreter dieser Stoffgruppe sind die Phenyldiazoniumsalze. Aliphatische Diazoniumsalze sind meist instabil.

Darstellung

Diazoniumsalze lassen sich durch Diazotierung primärer Amine mit Nitrit im sauren Milieu bei tiefer Temperatur darstellen.

Eigenschaften und Verwendung

Die reinen Diazoniumsalze sind instabil und explosiv und lassen sich deshalb meist nur in wässriger Lösung (bei Temperaturen < 5 °C) handhaben. Sie zerfallen beim Versuch, sie wasserfrei zu erhalten explosiv, lassen sich aber mit sterisch geeigneten Anionen teilweise isolieren. Ihre Lösungen dienen als Zwischenprodukte in der Synthese aromatischer Verbindungen, z. B. durch die Sandmeyer-Reaktion und besonders durch Azokupplung für Azofarbstoffe. Bei der Diazotierung von chiralen α-Aminosäuren treten Diazoniumsalze als Zwischenprodukte auf, die in wässriger Lösung stereoselektiv zu α-Hydroxycarbonsäuren weiter reagieren.
